The £4 Billion Blind Spot in Manufacturing

Inefficiency quietly drains billions each year, but what if the fix is already within your organisation? Your managers have a unique vantage point yet their insights often go unheard, while top-down strategies fail to address the realities of the frontline.

The latest Feedback From the Field global research, run annually by SafetyCulture, shows that nine out of ten organisations run an improvement programme. On paper, they should streamline operations, cut costs and drive profit.

In reality, studies have shown that 70% fail and for manufacturing in the UK and Ireland that equates to a £4billion problem.

The research studies ‘the why’ behind this massive productivity gap, examining skills gaps, prioritisation and remaining critical of ‘tick box exercises’. However despite the negative, there lies hope;  93% of survey respondents said they have ideas for improvement.

Managers aren’t just problem-solvers. They hear frontline frustrations every day, cut through the noise, and escalate the ideas with real business value. That’s why many businesses see bottom-line impact when their ideas are acknowledged and implemented. In particular, managers’ ideas have driven greater efficiency in manufacturing (59% ), leading the way, and ahead of better service in transport and logistics (47% ), and increased sales in retail (38% ) and hospitality (40% ).
